AILERON SET TO OPEN IN SPRING, 08

The new state-of-the-art Aileron is opening for business on April 22nd, 2008. Opening events begin on April 8th.
The Aileron campus is the physical manifestation of a mission: to create an environment for owners of private enterprise to implement professional management. LHSA+DP grasped the importance of the word 'aileron' to the client's mission and responded by creating signature aerodynamic roofs that gently float above solid shapes and volumes. Interaction with Aileron's founders, clients, and stakeholders led to the formulation of key themes that characterize the concept of entrepreneurship. These themes: Individuality, Big Picture, Journey, Dream, Focus, Leadership, Change, Decision-Making, Out of the Box, Nurture, Risk, Perseverance, and Passion, served to inform every aspect of the design process, from site selection and design, architecture and interiors, to exhibits and media, identity and graphics. The Aileron campus truly embodies LHSA+DP's multi-disciplinary approach to design as interpretation.
The dynamic 71,740 sf facility houses classrooms and breakout spaces, boardroom and meeting rooms, an auditorium, exhibits, dining and café areas, and private offices available for client use, while the campus offers a pond, walking trails, gardens and views of the surrounding rural countryside. Sustainable design features are also integral to the building. The result is successful not only in creating a project that meets Aileron's requirements, but also in creating an environment rich in texture, character and meaning that is inspirational for all its users.

KAMIQUE TO BE COMPLETED AND OCCUPIED BY CHRISTMAS

Kamique, the luxury residential development located in Little Harbour, Anguilla, for which LHSA+DP is providing complete planning and design services, is nearing completion and is expected to begin occupancy by this year's holiday season. The stunning villas, ranging in size from 3,500 sf to 6,500 sf, are individually sited to take maximum advantage of their ocean front sites, with particular sensitivity to views, natural ventilation, solar orientation and shading. The design melds the appropriateness and natural intelligence of traditional tropical architecture with a sensual, zen-like simplicity and elegance, utilizing natural materials for their expressive and functional power.

VILLAGE TEMPLE COMMISSIONS LHSA+DP FOR SYNAGOGUE IMPROVEMENTS

LHSA+DP is completing.construction of a new façade for the Village Temple synagogue located at 33 East 12th St., as well as to make extensive renovations and improvements to the building's interior. Designed by Lee H. Skolnick, FAIA, who is a Village Temple member and who is donating his own time, the new façade features a contemporary interpretation of a stone front rendered in a sandstone-colored stucco finish, with a pattern of bronze reveals alluding to traditional mortar joints. Bronze and stainless steel signage, new glass doors, a state of the art video message board, and a glass entry canopy complete the refreshed and enhanced experience and composition. The congregation's spiritual identity is further interpreted through the use of unique translucent graphics, depicting the “Tree of Life”, on glass doors, windows and the adjacent storefront. Renovation of the synagogue's interior will result in a warmer and more welcoming entry foyer, a more attractive and functional social hall and sanctuary anteroom, and newly renovated rest rooms.

MORRIS MUSEUM IN MORRISTOWN, NJ OPENS LANDMARK EXHIBIT

On November 6, 2007, the Morris Museum in Morristown, NJ celebrated the public opening of the Murtogh D. Guinness Collection of Mechanical Musical Instruments and Automata. This landmark exhibit, entitled “Musical Machines & Living Dolls”, is the centerpiece of a striking new 33,000 square foot addition/renovation of the Morris Museum. The more than 150 mechanical musical instruments, musical boxes and automated figures on display date from the mid-18th to the early 20th century. The 4,000 sf exhibition, designed by LHSA+DP, showcases the technological and scientific achievements, as well as the social historical themes, of this important collection. A workshop gallery offers hands-on interactives to complement these ingenious devices that once brought animated musical entertainment to both private settings and public spaces. Our reinterpretation and presentation of Mr. Guinness's extraordinary collection will ensure these objects continue to fascinate and delight today's audiences.

LHSA+DP has recently collaborated with the The New York Hall of Science (NYHOS), on three projects, one of which, The Great Hall Design Charette is complete. Other projects include:
|
|

Design for the "Blast-Off" Rocket Science Mini Golf Course
LHSA+DP is working with the NYHOS project team on creating an interactive outdoor miniature golf experience designed to teach principles of rocket science physics. Combining fun and science, a nine-hole Miniature Golf course with interactive components will demonstrate such principles as launch window, gravitational pull, zero gravity, and splash down while having great fun. The nine-hole course circles a central iconic practice area themed around the planets and moon and includes interpretive graphics based on the 1960's World's Fair, which was held at the Queens site.
Schematic Development for a New Early Childhood Science Center
LHSA+DP is in the process of developing design concepts for a new early childhood science center exhibit for younger audiences at the NYHOS, where kids ages 3-6 will learn all about the five senses and the human body. Though still in the very early stages, this environment is sure to be filled with interactive and exciting things to do, see, and learn.
