DOWNTOWN COMMUNITY TELEVISION (DCTV)

SKOLNICK began working with DCTV in 2004 to develop a master plan for their existing television production, teaching, and presentation facility. This initial planning work evolved to include design, document production, and implementation for a variety of architectural renovation projects, building systems upgrades, and code compliance issues throughout the building, including the design of a new state-of-the-art 74-person screening room.

A FORMER FIRE STATION
The Engine Company 31 building that houses DCTV is on listed on the US National Register of Historic Places and designated as an individual landmark by the NYC Landmark Preservation Commission. SKOLNICK worked with and obtained approvals from many public agencies to implement a series of renovations to the historic building, including foundation underpinning and stabilization.
CULTIVATING COMMUNITY
The creation of the new DCTV Cinema will provide a year-round venue devoted to “all documentaries / all the time.” The goal is to become the destination space for screenings and symposia where both established and emerging media artists can interact with their audiences, enabling dialogue and engagement into the creative film-making process itself. DCTV Cinema will feature over 200 cultural and screen events in its first year of operation, enabling diverse audiences and artists to present, watch, shape, and participate in the creative process of new media art works.
