SKOLNICK has been retained by Roper Mountain Science Center to design their new Environmental Science and Sustainability Building. The focus of this new center, which will serve K-12 students, community organizations, families, educators, and the general public, is to promote an understanding and an appreciation of Greenville’s local natural resources and to inspire people to seek and implement relevant solutions to environmental challenges. The space will feature STEM/STEAM-based student labs, flexible classrooms, an indoor/outdoor pond, an aquarium, a teaching kitchen, and a variety of interactive exhibits. Sustainable features of the building include a green roof, solar voltaic windows, and solar panels.
In addition to the building design, SKOLNICK was also asked by Roper Mountain Science Center to design the exhibits for the center which will cover topics such as animals, the water cycle, plant life cycle, human impact, challenges, and stewardship.
