WHAT MAKES A HERO?

The roughly 4,700 sf of exhibit space will explore the core question, what makes a hero? Through the context of Detroit history, displays will identify local people who have overcome adversity to become citywide and national heroes. These unique stories will connect to social and industrial history and illustrate how amateur and professional sports figures have enhanced Detroit’s communities. Captivating tales of finding mentors, discovering personal potential, and finding a path to one’s dreams will illustrate the values of the Detroit PAL programs – leadership, teamwork, discipline, responsibility, diversity, and respect.

SERVING THE COMMUNITY

This new facility will be a destination for urban youth, PAL alumni and volunteers, and local residents. It will enable the Detroit PAL to expand its programs that currently serve more than 12,000 young athletes, while also fulfilling the community’s dream of recapturing the magic of historic Tiger Stadium.
