SKOLNICK has collaborated with the Children’s Museum of Virginia (CMVA) since 2008 on a complete renovation of the museum that opened in 2011. Since that time, our firm has continued to work with the museum on various upgrades and new exhibitions, keeping CMVA fresh for a new generation of kids.

REVITALIZED BODYWORKS EXHIBIT FOCUSES ON WELLNESS
The latest of these new exhibits is the completely renovated “BodyWorks” exhibit, presented by Sentara.
The original exhibit focused on role play with health check-ups at the pediatrician and dentist offices. The Museum sought to re-focus the exhibit content messaging to one of overall wellness, the importance of exercise to health and to provide specific information regarding the effects of movement on growing bodies.
Reimagined as a “gym” as part of CMVA’s town streetscape, the exhibit space was expanded to make room for an assortment of physical interactive stations that challenge kids to get moving and figure out how their body responds during exercise. Kids measure their pulse at “Beating Heart”, examine bones and joints at “Skeleton Mirrors”, test their muscle strength at “Hang Time”, and check their breathing rate and vitals at “Run Time”. Colorful graphics at each activity reveal information about our anatomy and explain why physical activity is so important for overall health.
